It is altered, United Press Syndicate would not have been able to run that in newspapers. Too bad someone had to edit for mere shock value. And, Watterson actually named Calvin in his cartoons after the theologian... so it kinda works. Sorry, I had a big thing for Calvin & Hobbes back in the day.
